In recent years several examples of stellar streams, the remnants of
dwarf galaxies being accreted by a larger galaxy were detected by
very deep imaging (e.g. Martinez-Delgado et al. 2008, 2009, 2010;
Miskolczi et al. 2011).
Detections with relatively small telescopes proved, that amateur
astronomers are able to contribute very significantly to the search for
these very low surface brightness structures.
We therefore initiated at the BOHETA 2011 another joined amateur-professional
astronomers project to help each other in the hunt and analysis of these
important clues to the evolution of galaxies.
Welcome to the (steadily growing) web pages of HSS (Hunt
for Stellar Streams).
