Very cold cores in Taurus mapped by ISO
|

|
|
Right in time
before the end of the ISO mission, we managed to map the southern part
of the Taurus Molecular Ring. The 200 micron map reveals three
bright extended regions along the ring, and a young embedded star
in the northwest corner of the map. While the star and its surrounding
is also bright on IRAS 60 micron maps, indicating the presence of
warm dust, the three extended regions are inconspicuous at infrared
wavelengths of 100 micron and shorter. This provides evidence for
their nature as very cold cloud cores at dust temperatures of about
10 K, in which star formation has not yet started.
