Problem set 4, Ht2003

The last problem set of the course consists of active listening and responding to guest lectures, based on chapter 4 of the course textbook, on nuclear processes in stars.

The lectures will be from 9:00 (sharp) to 12:00 in room 2002, in the ground-floor hallway left of the main entrance of the building.

1. Preparation and attendance

   • Review your course notes and ch. 4 of the course textbook by Dina Prialnik. Make a list of possible questions.
   • During the talks, take notes on important points and questions that come up.

2. Participation   (20%)
   

   • Ask a reasonable question after one of the talks!

   Asking a question to one of the three lecturers will count for 20% of the bonus points on this problem set. The question should be about something presented in the lecture. It does not have to be particularly deep but should be something more than, for example, "Is that a P or a rho in Equation 2?"

3. Written feedback   (80%)
   For each lecture, fill out a sheet of paper with the following.

   • Name of the lecturer
   • Notes on the lecture (one-half to one page in length)
   • A relevant question about the lecture
   • The three best things about the lecture, including specifics or a short explanation
   • Suggestions for improvement (if any)
