Stellar Structure and Evolution
	Fall 2001

Course description/Beskrivning

Equations of stellar equilibrium. Thermonuclear reactions. Theories of stellar evolution. Theories for creation of chemical elements in different phases of stellar evolution. Pre-main sequence evolution. White dwarfs, supernovae, neutron stars, pulsars and black holes.

Ekvationer för stjärnor i jämvikt. Termonukleära reaktioner. Teorier för stjärnutveckling. Teorin för grundämnesbildning under olika faser av stjärnornas utveckling. T Tauri-stjärnor. Vita dvärgar, supernovor, neutronstjärnor, pulsarer och svarta hål.

N.B.: Lectures and exercises will be in English.

Course requirements

• Problem sets 1, 2, and 3
  (You may also want to see some comments regarding the gas constant.)

• Computer lab and written lab report
  (The instructions are available here in LaTeX and PDF format
  BUT you also need to do additional reading; see "Literature" below)

• Oral presentation (15 minutes) and essay (at least 2 pages)
• Final exam

N.B.: All other required course work must be completed successfully before being allowed to take the final exam.
