Introduction
`The Local Volume HI Survey'' (LVHIS) is a project comprising deep HI line and 20-cm radio continuum observations for all nearby, gas-rich galaxies. Our initial sample consists of all galaxies with v < 550 km/s or D < 10 Mpc that are detected in the `HI Parkes All-Sky Survey' (HIPASS). A declination limit of DEC < -30 degrees was chosen for observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA).
After the great success of LVHIS using the ATCA, a follow-up project was started to expand the survey to the northern hemisphere.
The Westerbork Interferometer (WSRT) is very well suitable for sensitive HI observations of galaxies, providing a good spatial and spectral resolution.
Observation
We selected all galaxies in the Karachentsev et a.l 2004 catalog with DEC > 20 degrees and excluding galaxies
observed in other surveys like THINGS, VLA-ANGST, LITTLETHINGS, FIGGS and WHISP.
All galaxies of WSRT-LVHIS were observed in one full 12h track.
We used a bandwidth of 10MHz and 1024 channels (for two polarizations). After Hanning smoothing, this results in a velocity resolution of 4km/s.
