Course literature
There is no book that covers the course exactly. But you can consult
the following texts for more details on the material covered during
lessons.
- The Generation and Transport of Radiation, lecture notes by
R. J. Rutten.
Compilation by Dan Kiselman, March 1995 (based on the English
translation of the 4th ed., spring 1992).
Contains many of the topics covered in the course, although some
parts are a bit too sketchy.
-
Introduction to Modern Astrophysics,
by Bradley W. Carroll & Dale A. Ostlie,
Addison-Wesley Publishing Company Inc., 1996.
Covers "all" astrophysics. Good and brief explanations. Worth having,
especially if you plan to take more astronomy courses.
Consult the book's Web site for corrections to earlier
and current
printings of the book.
- Radiative Processes in Astrophysics,
by George B. Rybicki & Alan P. Lightman,
John Wiley and Sons, 1979.
Covers the course and more (in chapter 1 you'll find the fundamentals
of the course). Good but expensive!
-
Optics, by Eugene Hecht,
Addison-Wesley Publishing Company Inc.
Good textbook on fundamentals of electromagnetic radiation and much
more (modern optics, lasers, non-linear optics, etc.)
-
A view of the
Milky Way in different wavelength regions.
