At the Boston Museum of Fine Arts around 1989/90, Heidi Träbert enjoyed drawing classes given by Leila Joy Rosenthal. After the family returned to Bochum, that is since the early 1990es, she has learned graphics, etching and printing (learning by doing!) in the MZ etching workshop guided by Barbara Grosse, and she later on also took up photography / photo laboratory work at the MZ photo section.

She has participated in a number of MZ projects, including various group exhibitions and the 1997 university calendar project.

• "KulturLandschaftIndustrie" ("CultureLandscapeIndustry") Graphics exhibition by MZ artists at Heinrich-Morgner-Haus, Soest (2002)

• "Crazy Audimax" (digitally processed photos of the Audimax buiding, summer of 2003)
  

• "Überblick" (Mostly) annual survey show of the arts workshop at MZ, winter of 2003/2004)

• "Raum der Stille" ("Quiescent space") (installation and performance, with Grit Hömke) and exhibit of panoramic photographs of the university, at the MZ Open festival of the MZ, July 2004 (plus participation in the photo exhibitions "Deutsch" and "Selbstportrait" at the same occasion).
  

• Exhibition of photographs "Heidi Träbert Fotografie" at "Kultur-Magazin Lothringen", Lothringer Str. 36c, 44805 Bochum (BO-Gerthe), from November 2004 to January 2005
  
  This exhibition comprised large scale colour photos of industrial (Essen and Duisburg), university (Bochum and Witten), and modern architectural (Bochum, Essen, Düsseldorf) settings, many of them in panoramic recording, examples of toning of and painting on photographs, as well as double exposures and multifaceted, detailed self portraits.
  An Interview (in German) with Heidi about this project appeared in the internet magazine Kreide-Kreis.

• Heidi enjoys photographing the theatrical productions of the Studiobühne, the student theatre at the MZ. Her photographic records of rehearsals and performances are often on display in the theatre foyer.
• Photos by Heidi are among the large decorative panels in the foyer of the university's AudiMax and in the corridor leading to the university senate meeting hall.
• At the occasion of a review ("Rückblick") exhibition on the summer semester special activities, some "Raum der Stille" material was shown again or newly created for a different setting at the Musisches Zentrum.

• A photo exhibition "RUB Bilder" (Pictures of the university) with colour photographs of the former cooling plant and black-and-white photos (many panoramic views) of the university, was presented at the International Meeting Place IBZ Beckmanns Hof (south of the Bochum university campus), from February 2005 through 2009.
• In 2005, Bochum university (RUB) celebrated its first 40 years. Heidi contributed to this by calligraphy and action painting performances.
• From mid February to late April 2006, Galerie Wurm at Herne-Wanne exhibited a selection of Heidi's etchings.
• In 2005, Heidi was invited to document the thorough reconstruction effort of the RUB mensa (kitchen, restaurants, conference rooms) building, including the hard hat areas. An exhibition of 100 large size photographs "Bilder einer Baustelle" ("Pictures of a Construction Site") decorates the university's new Veranstaltungszentrum (Convention Center) below the mensa main hall since 26 April 2006 through 2007.
  

• In 2007, Heidi was elected to join Pixelprojekt Ruhrgebiet and their 2007 exhibition (at Wissenschaftspark Gelsenkirchen, 30 March to 29 April 2007) with some of her cooling plant photos.
• The MZ Photo exhibition "Betonschönheit" ("Concrete beauty") with some of Heidi's double exposure photos was also exhibited at Jagiellonian University Cracow (Poland).

• A selection of Heidi's artwork is shown in a collection made at the occasion of H. H. Koch's 2012 end of term as the MZ arts section head.
