Ustinov (Birke / Birch)
Art (in contrast to technical products) often benefits from some
ambiguity of interpretability. Sir Peter might be amused (if he knew
of his likeness at all) that this piece of wood has also been
recognized as (probably Holy) "Father, Mother and Child".
Meaning is in the eye of the beholder...
By the way, the pedestal in the right hand picture is a piece of ash and of just the right height for sitting (a throne, of course). While Ustinov started out as a diagonally cut section of a birch trunk, this throne was a former hacking block that somebody had begun to saw into, but had given up - ash is hard to the tool, indeed. Really tough, and that is why it usually serves for tool handles.
